Crocodile farmers in Zimbabwe have snapped at an opportunity to export the reptile's meat to the Far East, an official said Monday.

Chris Foot, head of the Crocodile Farmers' Association, said it had secured a lucrative market deal for crocodile meat in Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia."Our export agency will start processing orders within the next few months," he told Zimbabwe's state news agency in Bulawayo, provincial capital of southern Zimbabwe.

He gave no details when the deal was reached nor how much it was worth.

In the past, Zimbabwe exported crocodile skins and tail meat. Last year 40,000 crocodile skins worth $3.13 million were exported, ZIANA said.
