Many of those voting on our most recent rookie comic strip, "Tight Corner," either loved it or hated it.
But there were more who hated it.Some 43 percent who submitted ballots liked it. Many of them liked it a lot.
"I love it," said one voter. "This and this alone is worthy of comparison to `The Far Side,' " wrote one of many who compared it to that Gary Larson creation.
However, 57 percent of the voters were against retaining "Tight Corner" as part of the Deseret News comics pages. And some of them voiced their opposition strongly.
"This is one of the worst comic strips we've seen for a long time," wrote one. And another wrote, "This is the worst comic I have ever read, and it isn't one bit funny."
So it's goodbye to "Tight Corner" and hello to our new rookie comic strip, which is in a decidedly different vein.
"Mallard Fillmore" may just be "the most controversial bill ever to hit Washington."
He's a duck and a conservative journalist whose "right-wing adventures" include, much to his horror, a new job at a television station.
Created by Bruce Tinsley, "Mallard Fillmore" pokes fun at anyone and everyone in the Washington establishment - from a conservative point of view.
Get acquainted with "Mallard." And we'll let you have your say on this comic strip in a few months, too.
