Members of Southern Utah University's Students In Free Enterprise chapter recently returned from San Francisco toting a now-familiar object - another regional championship trophy.
The only SIFE chapter in Utah, the SUU club has earned a national reputation in its three-year existence. In its first year, SUU won the regional business competition and went on to win the national "Rookie of the Year" award as a fledgling chapter. In its second year, SUU SIFE won the regional competition and again picked up national honors as the best new chapter. The SUU team tackled the Western Region this year, which consists of Utah, California, Oregon and Washington, said Robert O. Salmon, dean of the College of Business, Technology and Communication. Last year, the chapter won in the Southwestern Region. Due to SUU's geographic location, the SIFE team has the option to compete in either region.
Seven members of the team competed in San Francisco, led by chapter president Nolan Reidhead. Other competing SUU students were Dan Cloward, Adriana Cortez, Bryan Sorenson, Maksim Strikitsa, Shozo Uchimura and Michelle VanDam. The team's performance, rated on its presentation and its accomplishments in promoting free enterprise, qualifies it to attend national competition again this year.
