SHARE TEACHER WINS AWARD TO STUDY CONSTITUTION

Axel D. Ramirez, a teacher at Lakeridge Junior High School in Orem, has been awarded the James Madison Memorial Fellowship for graduate study of the history and principles of the Constitution of the United States.

The fellowships are awarded to state finalists to support the further study of American history by experienced teachers of American history, American government and social studies.The grant will fund up to $24,000 of Ramirez's course of study toward a master's degree that emphasizes the history and principles of the U.S. Constitution.

According to the selection committee, the awards are intended "to recognize promising and distinguished teachers, to strengthen their knowledge of the origins and development of American constitutional government, and thus to expose the nation's secondary students to accurate knowledge of the nation's constitutional heritage."
