Sixty-three pageant winners are in Orem this week to compete for the Miss Utah crown and scholarship prizes, plus a $1,000 award for community service.
A press conference Tuesday introduced the young ladies to their public and will be followed by preliminary competitions each evening Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 7:30 at Mountain View High School, 645 W. Center.Saturday night, the new queen will be selected and win the opportunity to compete in the Miss America pageant.
Tickets are available from contestants or at the door, but seating is severely limited the final night.
The ticket office opens at 6:15.
For evenings that sell out, a close-captioned wide-screen television will be provided for those seated outside the auditorium.
Theme of this year's event is "Music, Music, Music," in an effort to showcase the current Miss Utah's musical talent.
Marquessa Bullock, Miss Utah 1993-94, is an accomplished pianist who just won the 1994 William E. Robins Memorial Award at Utah State University for her achievements involving scholarship, leadership and service to community and campus.
Activities will also include the talents of Dr. Von Moody as "Elvis" and trumpet player John "Jack" Tueller, in a salute to the Big Band era.
