When Provo's Ryan Rhees and Sandy's Steve Schneiter fell short in qualifying competition at Willamette Valley Country Club in Portland, Ore., Tuesday, that left only former BYU golfers Rick Fehr and Johnny Miller as the only U.S. Open contestants with local ties.

Fehr made the U.S. Open cut as one of the PGA tour's top money winners last year and Miller got in with his special exemtion as the 1973 Open champion.
