Violet P. Karras, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 1994, fighting a courageous battle after heart surgery.

She was born February 20, 1908 in Stavros, Greece to Nick and Vasiliki Pepera. She married Steve Nick Karras in 1928 and they later immigrated to Price, Utah where they lived many years. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1983 where Steve passed on a short time later.She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Philoptochos Society and Athanasios Diakos.

Survived by her three children, James S. Karras, Angelina Kontgis and Bessie Karras Whitney, all of Salt Lake City; grandchildren: William A. Kontgis (Patricia), Mary Kontgis-Smith (Cory), Chris Kontgis (Elene), Stath Karras (Terry), Sophia Karras Gillmor (Edward), Angelica Karras Bailey (Bryan), Georgie Karras, Jason S. Whitney and Jessica Marie Whitney; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother in Lamia, Greece, Nick Pepera; numerous nieces and nephews in Greece and one nephew, Dr. Peter Mitsopoulos of West Palm Beach, Fla. Preceded in death by her son-in-law, Angelo Christos Kontgis, a sister, two brothers.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 10, 1994 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hellenic Orthodox Church in Price, Utah, 61 South 200 West. Friends may call at the Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, SLC, on Thursday evening, June 9th from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Interment, Price City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Deseret Memorial Mortuary, SLC.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in her memory to either Holy Trinity Cathedral or Hellenic Orthodox Church.

She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. May her memory be eternal.
