St. Benedict's Hospital is on a health and fitness kick and officials hope to raise about $30,000 for community outreach programs by capitalizing on community participation. The hospital's Corporate Sports Challenge is currently under way. Local company employees compete in numerous events, including bike racing, golf tournaments, racquetball, volleyball, tennis and track and field competitions.
Who: About 30 companies from Weber, Davis and Box Elder counties are competing in the events. Money raised comes through sponsorships and registration fees, according to St. Benedict's Foundation assistant director Maureen Grover.
What: The money will be used for programs to help the less fortunate: senior health screening, health education for grade-school children, counseling for sexually abused children and home visitation by nurses.
