The Utah Women's Lobby will hold its annual awards banquet Tuesday, June 14, at 6 p.m. in the Best Western Olympus Hotel, 161 W. 600 South. The public is invited.

The group, which lobbies the Utah Legislature and other governments on a variety of issues, will honor three people this year for their work on behalf of women over the past 12 months.Roz McGee receives the community award. McGee is the director of Utah Children, a statewide non-profit child advocacy group. McGee, over the years, has been an advocate for better housing, for improved public education and for a more effective political process. McGee has a master of public administration from the University of Utah.

Rep. Dave Jones, D-Salt Lake, receives the legislative award. Jones, who is also the chairman of the Utah Democratic Party and was a Salt Lake mayoral candidate in 1991, has embraced women as equals, lobby officials say. He has fought for safe, affordable child care, realizing that many women must work to support their families, they added.

Loretta Marie Baca receives the member's award, which goes to an outstanding member of the Utah Women's Lobby. In 1989, while traveling in Utah, Baca was the victim of a violent crime. Although severely injured, Baca decided to help other victims of crime and has volunteered thousands of hours of her time on behalf of crime victims. She currently works for the 3rd District Juvenile Court teaching juvenile offenders how their crimes impact their victims.

Cost of the awards banquet is $15 per person. For more information or to make reservations, call 272-7296 or 363-5012.
