If all goes as planned, work will begin in the spring of 1995 on a citywide sewer system.

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, the council voted to give Mayor Richard Maxfield the authority to proceed with the contract negotiations between Mapleton and Spanish Fork.Mapleton is proposing to hook up its wastewater disposal system to the Spanish Fork treatment plant.

"We are getting the attorneys together to work on the contract," Maxfield said. "Then we'll present it to both city councils. A rough draft will also be sent to the state for the environmental assessment on the lines."

Maxfield said Spanish Fork has been ready for the arrangement for some time. "It just makes sense. It will benefit both cities," Maxfield said.

Currently, Mapleton homes are on septic tanks.
