Rep. Karen Shepherd, D-Utah, has joined a group of women in Congress to push a series of five bills designed to help collect child support payments from deadbeat parents.
The bills would create a national network to allow states to access federal and other states' records to locate information on deadbeat parents, enhance paternity establishment procedures and require reporting of delinquent child support to credit bureaus."In this time of discussion about the loss of virtues in America, there can be no greater shame than denying a child the financial support he or she needs to grow up healthy and strong," Shepherd said.
"This legislation goes a long way in the fight to pull our children out of poverty. I join my colleagues today in saying that as a nation we must force parents to take responsibility," she said.
