The parade of possible Republican 1996 presidential candidates continues through Utah with the appearance of Jack Kemp at a Utah Republican Party fund-raising dinner Friday, June 10, at 7 p.m. in the Marriott Hotel.

Kemp served four years in the Bush administration as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Before that he served nine terms in the U.S. House, rising to a leadership position, from a district in western New York. Before that, Kemp was a quarterback in the old American Football League, where he led the Buffalo Bills to AFL championships in 1964 and 1965.Kemp, along with William Bennett, Jeane Kirkpatrick and Vin Weber, started Empower America, a public policy organization dedicated to expanding freedom and democratic capitalism, promoting economic growth and job creation in America and advancing policies that empower people, not government bureaucracies.

Kemp is one of several GOP leaders mentioned as possible 1996 presidential candidates who've passed through Utah recently, including Senate Minority Leader Robert Dole, R-Kansas; Lamar Alexander, GOP national chairman; and Dick Cheney, former Defense Secretary. Former Vice President Dan Quayle, who is also considering a presidential run, will be in Utah June 29 signing copies of his new book at the ZCMI Center's Deseret Book.
