An agreement between the state of Utah and United Health care of Utah, a health-maintenance organization, is expected to further Gov. Mike Leavitt's goal to enroll all Medicaid users along the Wasatch Front in managed-care plans by next July.

The agreement, which went into effect July 1, lets Medicaid recipients choose United HealthCare of Utah as their health-care provider. Until now, only 20,000 Medicaid recipients had enrolled in managed care.The HMO has more than 76,000 members and contracts with nearly 1,200 local physicians, 12 area hospitals and more than 100 area pharmacies. It serves 700 Utah employers.
