SHARE WETLANDS PRESERVE GETS $50,000 O.C. TANNER GIFT

The O.C. Tanner Co. has given the Nature Conservancy a $50,000 grant earmarked for the Scott M. Matheson Wetlands Preserve near Moab.

Managed jointly by the Nature Conservancy and the state Division of Wildlife Resources, the preserve is an 875-acre marsh along the Colorado River and is habitat to more than 160 species of birds including bald eagles and peregrine falcons.O.C. Tanner, a Salt Lake philanthropist and businessman, died last fall. His widow, Grace, is a relative of the late Gov. Scott M. Matheson, for whom the preserve is named.

The $50,000 gift will be used to build nature trails and educational facilities to help the public enjoy the wetlands, said Chris Montague, director of the Utah field office of the Nature Conservancy.
