SHARE WOODS CROSS PRINCIPAL GAINS 1994 UTAH HONOR

Verlan J. Terry, principal at Woods Cross Elementary School, has been named Utah's 1994 Distinguished Elementary School Principal of the Year.

He was hailed for his efforts to expand early childhood education programs, involve the business community, provide volunteer tutors, encourage teachers and complete the first state accreditation process in an elementary school.Terry also is known for adding the human touch by learning each student's name, shaking hands with them as they leave each day and giving high-fives in the hallways.

He will join other distinguished educators for an education conference in Washington, D.C.

The awards program is jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Association of Elementary School Principals in conjunction with VALIC (Variable Annuity Life Insurance Co.).
