Cougars announce basketball schedule
Seven-foot centers Cory Reader and Bryant Reeves will square off Nov. 23 when the BYU basketball team opens the 1994-95 season against Big Eight power Oklahoma State at the Great Alaska Shootout.Reader redshirted last year for BYU while Reeves led the Cowboys to the NCAA Tournament.
Oklahoma State is one of four teams in the Shootout which were ranked in the final top 25 last season. Other highly-regarded teams BYU could face on the opening weekend are NCAA runnerup Arizona, NIT champion Villanova, 10th-ranked Louisville or 23rd-ranked Minnesota.
BYU also plays in its own Cougar Classic (Dec. 9-10) and in the Cable Car Classic (Dec. 29-30) at Santa Clara, Calif. More details on page D2.
2 Utah teams win national soccer titles
DENVER - Two Utah teams won national championships last weekend at the Nike/
Triple Crown 3-on-3 Soccer Shootout National Finals.
The Gators, a team from Sandy, won the national title in the under-12 competitive division. The Gators defeated Ice Storm from Golden, Colo. Team members for the Gators are: Ryan Hanson, Jimmy Carlson, Jimmy Neeway and Brad Jenson.
The Pioneers, a team from Highland, captured the national crown by beating the Puma Juniors from Franklin Park, Ill., in the under-19 male premier division. Pioneers team members are: Stephen McMurdie, Nate Young, Jared Hafen and Neil Rasmussen.
Three Utah teams earned second-place honors. Salt Lake's Soccer International was runner-up in the under-16 male premier division. Lehi's Wildcats took second in the under-16 male competitive division and Taylorsville's Odessa Blaze finished second in the under-15 female competitive division.
