The state Medical Examiner's Office has concluded that Courtney Jo Flemal had no drugs or alcohol in her system and did not die of natural causes, police say.
The body of the 3-year-old Ogden girl was found June 7 under a bush on a hillside adjacent to the Ogden City Cemetery. Her mother, Shelly Flemal, 22, told police Courtney Jo was playing near a sandbox at Ogden's Liberty Park on June 4. But when she looked away for a few minutes and then turned back to her daughter, the child was gone.Detective Capt. Marlin Balls said a series of complex forensic tests have eliminated the possibility of any drug-related death suffered by Courtney Jo and also ruled out natural causes.
"The state medical examiner's report has determined (that) the multiplicity of injuries and the means of the disposal of the body are consistent with a homicidal act," Balls said.
