A Lehi infant is dead and three of her siblings remain hospitalized as a result of a head-on collision near 800 North and 800 East Tuesday morning.
And in a separate accident, a Provo boy has died from injuries suffered when he was run over by a pickup truck Monday afternoon.Dead are:
Crystal Biggs, exact age in months unknown.
Kenneth Brailsford, 3.
Biggs was a passenger in a car driven by her mother, Laurel Biggs, 33. The car was traveling westbound on 800 North when it was struck head-on by a pickup truck driven by Lee Peterson, 75, Provo.
Witnesses at the scene told investigators that Peterson was evidently beginning to turn left from eastbound 800 North when his truck swerved into westbound traffic, Orem Police spokesman Gerald Nielsen said.
The Biggs family - Crystal; Laurel; Brandy, 11; Nickie, 3; and Josh, 5 - were injured and were taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.
The infant was in a car seat that was not strapped down, Nielsen said. She received severe head injuries and died hours later, said a hospital spokesman. Laurel Biggs was treated and released. The other three children were in satisfactory condition.
Peterson, whom officers originally thought had suffered a heart attack, was uninjured, though witnesses said they saw him slumped in his seat moments before the collision. He was cited for drifting left of center.
The driver of a third vehicle, William Sykes, 52, Orem, was uninjured. He struck Peterson's truck while trying to avoid the accident, Nielsen said.
In the other accident, Brailsford was riding his bicycle in a driveway near 400 S. 1350 East when he was struck by a three-quarter-ton pickup driven by Gil Jackson, a neighbor. Jackson, who apparently didn't see the boy, continued backing the truck out of his driveway, running over him, said Provo police investigators.
A Primary Children's Medical Center spokesman said the boy died Tuesday night.
