The House - led in part by Rep. Jim Hansen, R-Utah - has won a fight with the Senate about whether to allow what Hansen calls a $300 million raid on the defense budget.

President Clinton had proposed taking $300 million from the 1995 defense budget and giving it to the State Department for unspecified U.N. peacekeeping activities.Hansen and the committee chairman, Rep. Norm Sisisky, D-Va., fought in a House-Senate conference to kill the fund transfer and won.
