This summer's graduating class at Brigham Young University included a few not-so-common students.

Patti Covey Edwards, wife of BYU's football coach LaVell Edwards, was this summer's oldest bachelor's degree recipient at 62.Edwards, who graduated in American studies, returned to school in earnest during fall semester of 1991. She transferred some credits from Utah State University and set to work finishing her degree.

"I think it's perhaps more enjoyable" going to school later in life, she said. "I could literally, physically feel my brain expand," she said, and that helped keep her going. She was also the only family member without a degree, and that gave her added incentive.

As for her husband, he's been very helpful.

"He's done the washing while I've done stats," she said.

Kristen Ann Adams, a physics graduate with an astronomy emphasis, is already making waves in an astronomical way. She mapped an unexplored nebula for her honors thesis. The nebula is part of the Abell Cluster. The mapping will change everything known about the stars in that cluster.

Graduation was also special for President Rex Lee. He conferred degrees on his son, son-in-law and daughter-in-law.
