A fugitive parolee walked out of his West Jordan house Thursday, more than three hours after he refused to surrender to Adult Probation and Parole officers.
Two officers attempted to pick up Raymond John Chavez Thursday morning. Chavez, in his 20s, had not complied with the conditions of his parole and, on Thursday, refused to be taken into custody, West Jordan police Capt. Randy Johnson said. In addition to other parole violations, Chavez had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in connection with a simple assault in West Jordan.Police negotiated with Chavez for several hours until he eventually left the house about 1 p.m., Johnson said. The man's wife and a 2-year-old child were inside the home for the duration of the incident. However, at no time were police certain that Chavez was armed or that the woman and child were threatened, Johnson said.
"He was fairly amenable . . . and he came out," Johnson said.
