BYU students along with family members mourn the death of Douglas J. Gibb, a full professor in communications at BYU who passed away.
Dr. Gibb was a quiet man who specialized in making his students excellent communicators and people. He never bragged about himself nor pitted students against one another. Instead, Dr. Gibb stressed that the spirit of "cooperation" rather than "competition" was what made one a success.Every public speaking and rhetorical methods class Dr. Gibb taught gave students the opportunity to speak without fear. Dr. Gibb made excellent speakers out of many who came to his class with little or no rhetorical experience.
Professor Gibb may have passed away, but the excellent communications skills he kindly taught by example will continue to benefit many of his students for the rest of their lives. How fortunate I was to be one of the last students of this exemplary professor.
