The Western Athletic Conference has reached a tentative agreement with the six new members - UNLV, Rice, San Jose State, Southern Methodist, Texas Christian and Tulsa - it was announced Friday morning.

The terms of membership are as follows:1. Each new member will share equally in all conference generated revenues. However, beginning June 30, 1997, and at the end of each fiscal year through June 30, 2001, each new member will have its share of conference revenue reduced by $100,000. This pool of revenues will be distributed to the 10 current members to supplement revenues from contracts negotiated prior to the expansion.

2. Beginning Oct. 1, 1994, the six new members will have voting privileges on all matters relating to issues that will affect new members (i.e. scheduling, conference sport codes, championships, television contracts, bowl agreements, etc.).

3. A one-time "equity" payment of $75,000 is required by Oct. 1, 1994, from each new member. In addition, an entry fee of $175,000 is required with $35,000 payable each July 1, beginning in 1996 and continuing through July 1, 2000.

"The agreement is a result of a cooperative effort between the current and new members," Benson said. "It appears these terms will satisfy everyone and provide a foundation for the `New WAC' to begin a long and beneficial association."
