A European Ryder Cup team captain and two local pros have been granted sponsor exemptions and will play in the 1994 Franklin Quest Championship at Park Meadows Golf Club later this month.

Tony Jacklin, Bruce Summerhays and Lanny Nielsen have been given exemptions, tournament director Curtis Cook announced Friday. A fourth exemption will be announced Aug. 18.Jacklin, who won 1969 British Open and 1970 U.S. Open, will find himself in familiar company in the tournament. He will be paired with defending Franklin Quest champ Dave Stockton, who captained the U.S. Ryder Cup team from 1983-1989. Jacklin was his European counterpart.

In his first year on the PGA Senior Tour, Summerhays has already qualified to play in two tournaments this season. With a sponsor exemption he will not be required to play in the Park City qualifying round. The Heber City pro won the Provo Open last year and has qualified for four PGA Championships and two U.S. Opens.

Former Jeremy Ranch pro Nielsen is a long-time supporter of the PGA Senior Tour in Utah. Nielsen has won the Utah Section PGA Championship twice. This is his eighth event as a senior player.
