John Grisham's got the right formula.

The best-selling author reportedly will get $6 million-plus for the film rights to his 1989 novel "A Time to Kill," the trade paper Daily Variety reported Thursday.Grisham's previous personal best was the $3.75 million Universal paid him for "The Chamber" last year.

Alexandra Ripley still holds the record for a book adaptation deal: $9 million for TV rights to "Scarlett," the sequel to "Gone With the Wind."
