Dorotha Virginia Moree Beers Wharton died peacefully surrounded by her daughters in her Bloomington home on August 11, 1994.
She had enjoyed a love, family and friend-filled life for 79 years.She was born in Lawrence, Kansas on November 17, 1914 to Frank and Ethel Haines Moree. She and her younger sister, Marjorie grew up on the family farm in Belleville, Kansas. She was valedictorean of her graduating class of Belleville High School in 1932.
She attended the College of Emporia, Kansas from 1932-1934. She was active in social events, musical associations and the women's glee club. She won a Model T Ford for winning a jitterbug contest.
She attended the University of Utah from 1936-38 where she was active in Kappa Kappa Gamma, the Women's Glee Club, the Mixed Quarter and the University of Utah's Musical Society, where she appeared in many concerts, plays and operas as soloist.
She married and was sealed to Henry Garner Beers in the Salt Lake Temple on June 27, 1937. She raised her family, three girls and a boy in Glendale, California. She was very active in Kappas, PEO, PTA, and the LDS Church, and held many leadership positions. She and Mr. Beers moved to St. George in 1978. Mr. Beers died in 1979. In 1982, she married George Keith Wharton and lived for 12 more years surrounded by friends, family and loved ones.
She is survived by four children, Barbara Hale, Huntsville, Utah; Karen Taylor, Studio City, Calif.; David Beers, Evansville, Indiana; and Rebecca Canover, Glendale, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Walter Marjorie Moree Keith, Urbana, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren all received of her love, life and energy.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 15, 10 a.m., in the Bloomington 4th Ward, 3371 Mulberry Dr. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
