The Episcopal Diocese of Utah's ministry for racial justice will honor civil rights activist Jonathan Daniels on Sunday, Aug. 14, for his fight against racism. Daniels was the first white volunteer to join the civil rights campaigns for school desegregation and voter registration in Lowndes County, Ala. He was shot and killed in August 1965 by a state official who refused to allow Daniels and others to purchase a soft drink at a store there.

Other churches and congregations are being asked to remember Daniels' contributions.
