Kevin Butler kicked three first-half field goals, and Robert Green scored on a 34-yard run as the visiting Chicago Bears blanked the Arizona Cardinals 16-0 Saturday night.

Butler hit field goals of 32, 44 and 22 yards, the last two coming after the Bears got the ball as the result of interceptions by cornerback Donnell Woolford.Green scored after breaking two tackles against reserves with 10:41 left in the game.

Buddy Ryan's vaunted 46 defense was foiled by penalties.

James Williams twice allowed Bears drives to continue with pass interference calls.

Arizona quarterback Jim McMahon, starting in place of the injured Steve Beuerlein, led the Cardinals to their 46 before being picked off by Woolford at his 10 with 13:06 left in the half.

Chicago marched 63 yards in eight plays, helped by Steve Walsh's 30-yard pass to Tom Waddle. Butler hit a 44-yarder with 9:12 left.

Woolford intercepted a pass by fourth-stringer Chris Swartz in the end zone with 3:20 left and Walsh engineered a 14-play, 75-yard drive to set up the third field goal.

McMahon completed 4 of 6 passes for 35 yards, playing the first three series. Beuerlein strained his back last week against San Francisco and didn't work out until Wednesday.

Bears starter Kramer hit just 1 of 7 passes in his three series.

Walsh, taking over in the second quarter, completed 10 of 17 passes for 114 yards. Green carried nine times for 79 yards.

Dolphins 31, Packers 24

In Milwaukee, Irving Spikes, who signed with Miami as a free agent after being ignored on draft day, rushed for a touchdown and set up two others with kickoff returns of 71 and 51 yards as the Dolphins beat the Green Bay Packers 31-24 Saturday night.

Ty Detmer hit Terry Mickens with a 57-yard pass 15 seconds before the fourth quarter, bringing Green Bay to within 24-17.

Then, Detmer engineered a quarterback sneak that capped a 12-play, 74-yard drive as Green Bay cut Miami's lead to 31-24 with 8:16 left.

Dan Marino, making his second appearance since rupturing his Achilles' tendon Oct. 10, tore apart Green Bay's first defensive unit, marching the Dolphins 84 yards on their first possession for an 8-0 lead.

In his only series of the night, Marino completed six of seven passes for 60 yards, capping the drive with an 11-yard lob to Mark Ingram with 2:58 left in the first period. Marino also hit Ingram for the two-point conversion.

Brett Favre set up Chris Jacke's 23-yard field goal, hitting wide receiver Robert Brooks on a crossing pattern for 43 yards to the Dolphins 13 early in the second quarter. Favre finished 7-of-9 for 92 yards in two series.

Brunell completed 15 of 19 throws for 121 yards and one touchdown. Detmer was 9-of-15 for 164 yards and a touchdown. Kosar was 8-of-15 for 97 yards.

Browns 16, Lions 7

In Cleveland, rookie Derrick Alexander returned a fourth-quarter punt 75 yards for a touchdown and Cleveland's defense dominated.

The Lions (1-1) struck quickly on their first possession but then took Barry Sanders out of the game and didn't get past midfield again. Detroit's only touchdown came on Scott Mitchell's 48-yard strike to Herman Moore less than three minutes into the game. Mitchell completed 4-of-8 passes for 73 yards in the first half, and Long was 7-of-16 for 69 yards.

Vinnie Testaverde was 8-of-13 for 91 yards in the first half, but backup Mark Rypien was far less efficient, going 2-of-9 for 20 yards.

Seahawks 29, Buccaneers 6

In Seattle, Rick Mirer passed for his first touchdown of the exhibition season and rookie defensive tackle Sam Adams scored his first NFL touchdown as Seattle beat Tampa Bay.

The Bucs (1-1) unveiled their top two draft choices - quarterback Trent Dilfer and running back Errict Rhett - and had unproductive days. A Dilfer fumble was returned by Adams 17 yards for a touchdown in Seattle's 22-point second quarter.

Mirer, Seattle's talented second-year quarterback who set NFL passing records for completions and yards last season, played the entire first half, completing 10 of 18 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown. He was not intercepted.

Steelers 29, Raiders 17

In Pittsburgh, Neil O'Donnell and Mike Tomczak directed a pair of scoring drives apiece and the Pittsburgh Steelers rebounded from deficits in each half to beat Los Angeles.

Jeff Hostetler and Vince Evans threw touchdown passes to Darryl Hobbs in the first half for Los Angeles (2-1), but Pittsburgh (1-1) rallied with mostly reserves on the field.

Giants 28, Chargers 20

In Berlin, Dave Brown ran for one touchdown and threw for another in his first game as the Giants' No. 1 quarterback, leading New York to a 28-20 victory against the San Diego Chargers in an American Bowl.

Brown, who beat out Kent Graham in the battle to replace Phil Simms, got off to a shaky start, throwing two passes that should have been intercepted and fumbling to set up the Chargers' opening score in the first quarter.

He rallied, though, completing 15 of 21 passes for 187 yards and leading New York to two second-quarter TDs. He ran 9 yards for the first score, then hit Aaron Pierce with a 2-yard pass against San Diego's second string defense.

Jets 34, Eagles 24

In Philadelphia, Boomer Esiason threw one touchdown pass, left the game, then came back to throw another as New York beat Philadelphia.

Esiason started and got the Jets their first touchdown on a 9-yard pass to Rob Moore early in the second quarter.

Esiason finished 7-for-13 with 128 yards.

Colts 26, Bengals 21

In Cincinnati, Lamont Warren - that other running back drafted by Indianapolis - took over for an injured Marshall Faulk and led the Colts to two second-half touchdowns and a 26-21 exhibition victory Saturday night over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Warren, a sixth-round pick out of Colorado, ran 71 yards for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter and put his mark on a wild finish with a game-winning catch-and-run.

Warren took a high, arching pass from Browning Nagle, who barely beat a blitz, and sprinted the final 50 yards of a 62-yard touchdown play. He cut to the middle to avoid cornerback Leonard Wheeler and went untouched with 58 seconds left.

Warren's performance turned some heads in the absence of Faulk, the No. 2 pick in the draft who went out with a bruised lower back in the first quarter. It also overshadowed another good performance by backup quarterback Jay Schroeder, who led the Bengals (0-2) to three second-half touchdowns and intensified the pressure on struggling David Klingler.

In Minneapolis, Warren Moon and Andre Ware each threw a touchdown pass as Minnesota beat New Orleans.

The Vikings (2-1) and the Saints (0-2) let Moon and Jim Everett each run the offense and work with the first string unit for a full half.

Moon, who played 11 seasons with the Houston Oilers, struggled against the Saints, completing 9 of 20 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Everett, presumed finished as an NFL quarterback by the Los Angeles Rams last year, showed renewed signs of life. He connected on 14 of 22 for 182 yards and two touchdowns, and was sacked just once for a nine-yard loss.
