If the area called the Cottonwoods becomes a city, it will not lack for people with disposable incomes, above-average amounts of education and those willing to get involved in civic causes.

According to demographic profiles of the area from the 1990 Census and a marketing company, the average household income in 1989 was $42,115 and 36.6 percent of the residents are college graduates. The area's age is much older than Utah's average. Housing prices outpace most other areas of the county.According to CACI marketing research of Fairfax, Va., in the ZIP code area of 84117, which overlaps the area, there is above-average participation in almost all areas of civic involvement, including schools, elections, writing letters to editors of publications, civic clubs and generous contributions to public television stations.

People in this upscale area are into saving money, investing in stocks, buying CDs and cellular phones, going on foreign trips and hiring housecleaning services.

In fact, area residents are among the most frequent purchasers of stocks and bonds in the state. They have a lot of interest in all sports with skiing, scuba diving and tennis leading the list.

According to the incorporation report prepared for county commissioners, the area is expected to have a slow-growing, stable population. The area is expected to grow from 6,649 in 1993 to 7,461 in 2001.
