SHARE DEATH: ETHEL JONELLA BATEMAN CALKIN

Ethel Jonella (Jo) Bateman Calkin, age 56, a 32-year resident of Salt Lake died August 12, 1994 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Born May 23, 1937 in Shelley, Idaho, a daughter of Hyrum Adelbert Bateman and Pansy Mignonette Owens. Jo's mother died in 1939 and her father about 1954.Graduated from Firth, Idaho High School in 1955. Served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1956-1959; attended Ricks College, 1959-1960; served an LDS Mission to Norway, 1960-1962. Earned the Golden Gleaner church award. Worked for the LDS Church, 1962-1965. Married James Floyd Calkin July 17, 1964 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Attended BUY from 1968-1972 and became a registered nurse. Served faithfully in the LDS Church MIA, Sunday School, Primary, Relief Society, Scouting, visiting and home teaching callings until her passing.

Survived by her husband and three children, Jill of Ketchikan, Alaska; Jeff and Jeanie, still at home; foster mother, Lucille Bateman of Shelley, Idaho; brothers, Gordon and Ted Bateman; sisters, Sharon Mull and Billie Beal.

Viewings at the LDS 20th Ward Chapel, 2nd Avenue and `G' Street, Salt Lake City, on Tuesday, August 16, 6:30-8 p.m. and Wednesday, August 17 at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12 noon. Arrangements by Memorial Estates Mortuary with interment at their Bountiful Lakeview Cemetery near the new temple.
