Unable to fly out Haitians who qualify for asylum, the U.S. Embassy wants to take them from their military-ruled nation by land to the Dominican Republic, a spokesman said Sunday in Port-au-Prince. The United States has returned Haitians trying to escape by sea and told others to apply in Haiti for asylum, but no refugees approved for asylum have left since a ban on airline flights took effect July 30.
