A Smithfield man faces six first-degree felony charges, accused of robbing a home improvement store and locking four employees in a garbage bin.
Matt Shaner, 21, was charged Tuesday with four counts of aggravated kidnapping, all first-degree felonies, each relating to the four employees. He also was charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary, also first-degree felonies, and theft, a second-degree felony.Shaner, a former employee at the Logan Ernst home store, was arrested Aug. 2 after police executed a search warrant at his residence and found about $14,700 in cash, according to a probable cause statement. He was being held in the Cache County Jail without bail.
On July 17, after the store had closed, a man wearing a Halloween mask threatened four employees at gunpoint, locked them in a large garbage bin and took off with more than $84,000 in cash and checks.
