In May, I spent 10 days visiting Utah with several colleagues from Japan who have never seen America. One of the high points of the visit was a performance of the Verdi Requiem on Temple Square with Joel Rosenberg conducting the American West Symphony.
This is the kind of music that Oregonians would have to travel to Portland to hear. In Oregon, we simply do not have these rich musical opportunities. I was extremely impressed with Joel Rosenberg, the orchestra and the soloists. I wish to commend the supporters of the Temple Square Concert Series and their director, Ian McKay, for providing your community with such a high standard of excellence. My Japanese friends were extremely impressed and continue to discuss the concert as a highlight of our tour through Utah.
