Melvin "Bud" Jones, assistant custodian at Brighton High School, and Kathy Gregory, lunch manager at Bingham High, have been voted as Jordan School District's outstanding classified professionals for 1994.
Both Jones and Gregory received high recommendations from their peers. One Brighton teacher, for instance, described Jones as "an A-1 custodian who is always there when you need him. Another said Jones "is someone we love to death," describing Jones as someone who works hard every day, never shirking an assignment or leaving any task unfinished when his shift is over.
The Bingham High staff describe Gregory as "considerate and accommodating." They say she is excellent at helping handicapped students develop job skills as they work for her in the lunch program. Gregory enthusiastically creates new lunch menus and food items to increase participation in the school lunch program.
In addition to providing a high quality lunch program, Gregory has been instrumental in piloting a computerized school lunch management system being considered for district- wide adoption.
Each award winner each received a framed certificate and a $500 check.
Craig Dearing, president of the Jordan Education Foundation, commended the contribution that all classified employees make to the school district. "Nothing gets done without classified personnel," said Dearing.
Dearing stated that Jones and Gregory were selected as the 1994 outstanding employees because of:
- Their individual efficiency and initiative.
- Helping provide a safe learning environment for students.
- Displaying positive attitudes toward their work.
- Contributing excellence to the Jordan School District.
The two were named in a special recognition program sponsored by Entertainment Publi- cations in cooperation with the Jordan Education Foundation.
