A Bountiful woman escaped serious injury Saturday afternoon after falling while hiking down Mount Timpanogos.

Utah County Sheriff's dispatchers said Nanette Bernard, 39, was hiking down the mountain's snow field, which leads to Emerald Lake, when she apparently lost her footing and slid out of control.Another hiker contacted Timpanogos Emergency Response Team officials at 3:45 p.m., and efforts involving TERT and the Utah County Sheriff's search and rescue teams began minutes later.

Once Bernard, who suffered head and neck injuries as well as numerous scrapes and bruises, was found, she was carried by rescuers to a LifeFlight helicopter, which landed near Emerald Lake.

Bernard was taken to LDS Hospital for X-rays and as a precautionary measure. She was treated and released Saturday night, a hospital spokesman said.
