Reed Charles Smith, 75, died August 15, 1994 at his home in Midvale.

Born August 19, 1918 in Weston, Idaho to Joseph and Nellie Gilbert Smith. Married Nona Aleen Olsen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple March 5, 1940.Reed ran a successful business as a plumbing and heating contractor for 44 years. He was active in the LDS Church, serving in many leadership positions including bishopric, Priesthood, and Sunday School organizations.

He loved the game of basketball, and was named to the All-State Team. Reed was a selfless person, and spent many hours taking care of those in need. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Survived by his wife, Nona; two daughters, Joann Clark and husband, Don; Paulette Francom and husband, Ron; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Stephens; Verda Gibbs; Elva Larson; and Zenda McDermott. Preceded in death by a baby son, Lavell, and five brothers.

Funeral services Friday, August 19, 11 a.m., Midvale 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, 75 Olympus Street. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Thursday 6-8 p.m. and at the ward Friday, one hour prior to services. Interment, Midvale City Cemetery.
