Three of four teenagers who escaped from Youth Correction's observation and assessment facility last week by kicking a door off its frame are still on the loose.

The teenagers, ranging in age from 15 to 17, got the opportunity to escape Aug. 8 after one of them kicked the door and weakened the frame."We had a kid who was acting out," said Vanessa Jarrell, director of the facility. "He kicked the door and the frame gave."

When the frame cracked, the two counselors who were working with the group of 16 teens began moving the kids upstairs. While one counselor guarded the front door, the other walked upstairs with the teens, Jarrell said.

Four teens at the end of the line kicked the door until it gave and ran out of the building, she said. Police have captured one of the teens.

Jarrell said the facility is a community program, not a secure facility. The teens were placed in observation and assessment by judges, who will see them again after they're evaluated. All four teens were being held on a number of charges, both misdemeanors and felonies.
