SHEPHERD DOESN’T KEEP PROMISES

SHARE SHEPHERD DOESN’T KEEP PROMISES

I refer to Teneille Brown (Forum, Aug. 9) rebutting claims that Rep. Karen Shepherd supports socialized medicine.

Ms. Brown stated that Shepherd supported the president's program but not his approach, and also stated that Shepherd would support a program similar to Gov. Leavitt's, which would make the phase-in voluntary over a period of time.I remember Shepherd's campaign promises to her constituents that she would not vote for a tax increase. She was elected mainly on the basis of that promise. She caved in to the pressure from the Clinton administration and voted for more taxes.

Regardless of what Shepherd says now, I firmly believe that if the Clinton health-care plan comes to a vote, she will vote for it. She has already shown that her promises are written in the sand.
