Diets rich in proteins may cause kidney cancer and illnesses that lead to kidney cancer, researchers at the National Cancer Institute say. That possibility is raised by a study coordinated by NCI's Dr. Wong-Ho Chow that analyzed the dietary intake of 690 kidney cancer victims.

People whose diets include large amounts of meat, eggs, milk, cheese, vegetables and cereals are 90 percent more likely to contract kidney tumors than those who consume modest amounts of protein, Chow reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
