Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, John Paul Jones, 76, returned home August 16, 1994, following a short illness.
He was born May 30, 1918 in Helper, Utah, to Clarence R. (Ted) and Amy Ann Mangum Jones and married LaJune Oldroyd, Aug. 29, 1940, in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.John was known for his kindness and generosity. He loved his family dearly and was always willing to help them with any of their needs. Some of his favorite activities involved meeting around his table with family members to celebrate birthdays or other special occasions. He always enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren. John excelled in football at Weber State University, Brigham Young University, and the University of Utah. He received his BS degree in business from the University of Utah where he was also affiliated with Sigma Chi fraternity. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II. When he returned, he devoted himself to a career in marketing and sales related to the construstion industry where he was greatly admired for his hard work and integrity. He was an active member of the LDS Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, LaJune; sons, Paul (Judy); Kelly (Cathie); Tracy (Glenda); Tony (Anna), all of Salt Lake; and Brent (Lynn), of Des Moines, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Dix M., San Jose, Calif., C. Robert and William E., both of Salt Lake. Preceded in death by his sister, Amy Hill.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 12 o'clock noon at the Monument Park Second Ward, 1005 South 20th East. Friends may call Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 13th South, and Friday at the ward 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park following the services.
