Michael Cooper's wife does not want people to compare the domestic dispute that led to her husband's arrest with the circumstances surrounding the O.J. Simpson case.

The former Los Angeles Lakers guard, currently their assistant coach, was arrested July 27 for battery and assault after threatening his wife, Wanda, with a vase. Cooper, 38, is free on bond.Mrs. Cooper said she was taken aback by the news media's reaction after the arrest report was released Monday. She singled out a Los Angeles television station that led into a report on the Simpson case with a story about Cooper's arrest.

"I want to make sure people aren't letting their imaginations run rampant," Mrs. Cooper said at an impromptu news conference outside her home. "I don't even want this discussed in that arena."
