Sen. Orrin Hatch has accepted $300,000 from the "dirty water" industries, who paid him to defeat legislation which would have forced them to desist from contaminating the waters - the oceans, lakes and streams of America.
In having taken such money, Hatch surrendered the majesty of the Senate of the United States to unworthy people. Only the people of the state of Utah are empowered to remove such a moral abscess, and they can do so at the polls in November. The founders of this republic anticipated Hatch, for they admonished oncoming generations that "patronage constitutes the utmost temptation to be treacherous to a nation, exactly where the public good requires the utmost integrity." If the law is tainted at its source, what is to become of our country?
The lens of the television camera is a searcher of souls. It brings home the awareness that there is no weakness that covers a man with shame as that of being found false and perfidious to his oath.
