When Salt Lake police responded to a reported stabbing Sunday morning, they found a man staggering in the middle of the street with blood coming out of his chest.

Officers and paramedics determined the man had been stabbed and later arrested his girlfriend's father.The father told police that Luis Jose Gomez, 43, showed up at 1617 S. Navajo intoxicated and belligerent, demanding to know where his girlfriend was, a Salt Lake police report states.

Gomez allegedly attacked and punched the father, who got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him in the upper left chest, according to the report. The victim was taken to LDS Hospital, where he was treated.
