First-term Manti City councilman Chris Church has accepted out-of-state employment and resigned from his position.

"Chris was heavily involved in a beautification program at Manti's north entrance, and we will miss his expertise," Mayor Kent Larsen said.He said the city's Republican committee has been asked to nominate three candidates for the vacancy. An appointment will probably be made at a council meeting Sept. 7.

A CSU graduate, Church moved to Manti as a teacher at Manti High School, then operated his own business for a time. He was employed by the LDS Church when he resigned from the council.
