SHARE UTAH GYMNASTS FARE WELL AT NATIONALS

Two girls from Sandy's Olympus School of Gymnastics and one from Murray's Rocky Mountain School of Gymnastics are within striking distance of their goal of making the national junior elite team after the compulsory exercises Wednesday morning at the Nashville Auditorium in the 1994 National Gymnastics Championships.

Deidra Graham of Tooele and Olympus was 10th (35.60) after the junior compulsory round, which counts 60 percent of the total score with optionals to be held Thursday at 1 p.m. MDT. Graham's teammate, Taryn Apgood, Salt Lake City, stood 15th (34.50), with Cassidy Vreeke of Rocky Mountain 20th (33.725).The top 12 after Thursday's round become the national junior team. The leader through compulsories is Dominique Moceanu of Karolyi's in Houston, 37.90. Second is Doni Thompson of Colorado Aerials (37.025).

Casey Bryan, the 1993 national junior men's champion from Woods Cross, now representing the University of Oklahoma, was to compete in his first senior nationals starting Wednesday afternoon.
