SATURDAY, Sept. 10, the Huntsville Half-Marathon and 5K Run. Half marathon starts at 8 a.m. and 5K at 8:30 a.m. at Huntsville town park. 626-6940.

SUNDAY, Sept. 11, the Snowbird Rowdy Run. A 5-mile run and 3,000-foot climb to top of mountain. 328-0829.

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 14, the Domino's Twilight Run. Start 6:30 p.m. at Weber State foodball stadium. 4-mile run, 2-mile walk. 394-6600.

SATURDAY, Sept. 17, will be the Copperview Community Center Classic 5K. Start 8446 S. 340 West, 561-0075.

SATURDAY, Sept. 17, the Alta Peruvian Lodge 8K Speed Run. Start 6 p.m. at Peruvian Lodge in Little Cottonwood and goes down canyon. 328-8689.

Triathlon

MONDAY, Sept. 5, the Bountiful Labor Day Perfect Triathlon. Start 7:30 a.m. at Bountiful Rec Center, 150 W. 600 North. 400-meter swim, 10-mile bike, 2-mile run. Novice, mt. bike, heavyweight, and age classes. 467-4203.

Marathon

Golf

CLINICS. Eaglewood Golf Course will host men's and women's golf clinics. Five lessons for $40. Morning and afternoon clinics available. 299-0088.

JUNIOR/SENIOR GOLF. Salt Lake County will hold Junior and Senior golf programs through the summer. Adult clinics designed to teach fundamentals of golf swings to advanced skill levels. There will be 26 session, the last one on Sept. 10. Times are 5:30 and 7 p.m. Cost is $60 per player. Courses are Meadow Brook, Mick Riley, Mountain View and River Bend. 468-2560.

Tennis

Softball

TRYOUTS. Utah Stars Girls Softball tryouts for players 14 and under will be held Aug. 24 and 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crescent Park (11000 S. 250 East). 571-4889.

TRYOUTS. Utah Storm, Northern Region, tryouts will be held Aug. 27 for players 14 and under at Sunset Park between Clearfield and Roy between 9-11 a.m. 451-8846.

Basketball

LEAGUE. Salt Lake County Parks and Rec is taking applications for the fall Basketball Program. Cost is $195. The league will begin Sept. 7 and run for 7 weeks. 468-2560.

CLINIC. A programs for all skill levels, grades 1st through 9th, will be held Sept. 13 and Sept. 15 at Butler Middle School, 7530 S. 1700 East. Prices $25 to $40 per player. Focus on skill development and conditioning. 272-2243.

Football

FLAG FOOTBALL. Registrations are being taken at East Millcreek Rec Center, 2230 Evergreen Ave., for flag football for boys and girls, ages 8 to 12. Cost is $30 for 8 sessions starting Sept. 10. Deadline is Sept. 2. 272-2243.

Cycling

RIDES. The Salt Lake County Parks and Rec Family Bicycle Ride Series '94. Rides designed for family fun. Open to rides 7 and older. Courses range from 14 to 22 miles and shorter 9 to 11 miles. Routes chosen for safety and room for bikes and cars. Register County Parks and Rec or Toys-R-Us. Volleyball

WALLYBALL. Alta Canyon Sports Center is starting a drop-in league for all levels of play. This is on-going event. Informal leagues on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. and Friday at 9 p.m. Free for members, $4 for non-members. Structured league on Saturdays and Wednesdays, with round-robin and double elimination tournaments every 6 weeks. 942-2582.

TOURNAMENT. Registrations are being accepted for the annual Coed Doubles Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. at Cottonwood Heights Rec Center, 7500 S. 2700 East. AA, A, B and novice. Deadline is Sept. 14. Fee is $15 a player or $10 for FOVA members. 272-2243.

Other events

PRACTICAL SHOOTING. The Salt Lake Practical Shooting Association will hold monthly matches and practice sessions. Monthly matches will be held at 9 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month at the Hendricksen PMAA range at the East Canyon exit of I-80 in Parleys Canyon. Call 580-7836 or 942-8573.

REI CLINICS. On Aug. 23, Chet Morris will recount his three-month adventure exploring and photographing Patagonia from his canoe . . . On Aug. 30, the Canyonlands Field Institute will present tips o how to explore the canyons and how to tread lightly through the fragile Colorado Plateau . . . On Sept. 13, learn the life-saving technique of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) from Steve Littlefield. Four-hour class will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Limited to 20 people . . . On Sept. 20, Alyson Heyrend and Bill Christensen will talk on Book Cliffs and recreational opportunity . . . On Sept. 27, Trudy Dahl will offer tips on gear and clothing, and talk on planning your European adventure. DISABLE PROGRAMS. Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer recreation and leisure experiences to individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Adapted Sports is designed to meet the physical and social needs of each participant. The objectives are to teach fundamentals of sports with emphasis on fun, cooperation, fair play and team building skills. 561-0075.

RACQUETBALL. Alta Canyon Sports Center is offering a free drop-in racquetball class for players ages 8-14 on Fridays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. 942-2582.

WEIGHT LIFTING. Alta Canyon Sports is offering Teen Weight Training Workouts Tuesdays and Thursdays 4-6 p.m., and on Saturday 10-11 a.m. Coaching provided. Fee is $1.50 for area residents, $2.50 for others. 942-2582.

FISHING SEMINARS. Larry Mullins will give a fishing seminars at Utah Lake State Park on Aug. 27. It will be a Channel Catfish Clinic. Seminars will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Clinics are free, but visitors must pay $3 park entrance fee.

ADAPTED RECREATION. Salt Lake County Rec is offering a number of Adapted Recreation programs for individuals with physical and/or mental disabilities. Adapted Summer Day Treatment camp will run through Aug. 26. This program runs Monday Through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Weekly activities include arts and crafts, sports and games, field trips, swimming and social skills. Adaptive Indoor Soccer will begin Sept. 10 and run throgh Oct. 29. It will be held every Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at Copperview. Cost is $25 and includes 8 games, team photo and awards. Adaptive Dance will begin on Sept. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Copperview. Cost for the dance class is $15 per month. Register at Copperview Community Center, 846 S. Harrison Street in Midvale. 561-0075.

STATE PARKS. Calendar of events for . . . For month of August, the Art Show at Fremont Indian State Park, featuring wildlife paintings by James Owens and wood carvings by Blain Cowley . . .
