An expected record number of students will start fall quarter classes at Southern Utah University Sept. 20.
"Actual classes will start on the 20th, but there are several other important dates for prospective students," D. Mark Barton, assistant vice president of student services, said. "Payment of tuition and fees is to be completed by Sept. 9. If payment is not made by that date, courses may be released for other students to pick up."A welcome and orientation for students attending SUU for the first time has been scheduled for Sept. 19.
All indicators point to an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students for fall quarter. That would be an increase of nearly 7 percent over enrollment for fall quarter last year. Overall, completed fall-quarter registrations are 6 percent ahead of last year. Nonresident registration is considerably ahead of fall 1993, and new freshman registrations are already 100 ahead of the total for last year.
The deadline for applications for admission to SUU was July 1. Applications submitted after that date are being reviewed on an individual basis, and students are being admitted on a space-available basis. Applications for admission are up 6 percent over last year; most of the increase is made up of incoming freshmen.
Students who have not yet registered may register in person at the registrar's office in the Administration Building, or they may register by telephone by calling (801) 586-7714. Students registering by telephone should have courses selected in advance and should have alternate courses determined in case original selections are not available. A $3 telephone registration fee will be charged.
Advisement services for students not yet registered are available through the Student Development Center, 801-586-5419.
Referrals for on-campus housing are being coordinated through the SUU Housing and Residence Life Office, 801-586-7966. There is a waiting list for housing at both of SUU's single-student facilities, Juniper Hall and Manzanita Court.
