Only 17 percent of Salt Lake area businesses intend to beef up their staffs in the final quarter of 1994, while 10 percent said they intend to cutback on employees, according to the latest Manpower Inc. survey.

Robert Katz, a company spokesman, said, "As we head into the final months of 1994, employers are anticipating holiday staffing needs while other industries experience a year-end production hiatus that may seasonally decrease their payrolls.""Of the area companies surveyed last year at this time, 17 predicted increased hiring while 10 percent also planned reductions," Katz said.

This fall, job opportunities are projected in education and wholesale/retail trade. Cutbacks are planned in construction and services and public administration employers reported mixed intentions, Katz said.
