Oscar-winning actress Faye Dunaway, dropped as the lead in "Sunset Boulevard," says she can sing and is suing Andrew Lloyd Webber for claiming she can't.

Dunaway's $6 million lawsuit, filed Thursday in Superior Court, says Lloyd Webber defamed her and broke their contact by firing her before she could take over the starring role.Dunaway says she was dismissed because Lloyd Webber wanted to close the Los Angeles show and cut his financial losses.

A spokesman for Lloyd Webber, whose musicals include "Cats," "Starlight Express" and "Jesus Christ, Superstar," called the action groundless.

"We've never seen a lawsuit with so little foundation. It's a stickup, and we're not going to tolerate it," Peter Brown said.

Lloyd Webber himself fought back, vowing in a statement to "take the severest action against her insulting, damaging and defamatory remarks."
