SHARE SERVICES HELD FOR CHURCH LEADER

One of several memorial services for the Rev. Gene Robinson, minister of the four-denomination United Church of Kanab/Fredonia, was held Tuesday after the 74-year-old church leader died Aug. 17, 1994, in Salt Lake City.

The Rev. Robinson has been honored during the past week at a variety of locations in the West. He pastored congregations in Turner and LeGrande, Ore.; Billings, Mont.; and Wheat Ridge, Colo.; before taking a post as minister of the Granger Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in West Valley City from 1984-91.In March 1991, he became pastor of the Kanab/Fredonia United Church, the only multi-de-nom-inational church in Utah and one of the few in the nation. The church embodies the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the United Church of Christ, the United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church.

The August 1994 issue of Disciple Magazine, published by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) features the Rev. Robinson in an article titled: "Kanab, Utah: The Edge of the Earth?" Of his wide-ranging congregation, he said: "This congregation considers its diversity a blessing . . . . Members are committed to remaining open to the future as they struggle to be the Church of Christ on the cutting edge of Christianity."

Robinson was moderator of the Utah Region of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) 1990 and 1991 and chaired the Committee on Ministry. He was the chairman of the support committee for Shared Ministry and also served on the clergy nurture work group between 1984 and 1991.

Those attending the Tuesday's memorial service included the Rev. Edward Paup, Denver, special assistant to the bishop, United Methodist Church; the Rev. Wm. E. Crowl, Denver, regional minister, Central Rocky Mountain Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); the Rev. E. Ken Tracy, executive presbyter, Presbytery of Utah; and the Rev. Ed H. Kicklighter, former minister at Kanab/Fredonia.
